I remember back in December 2006, I was hanging out at the mall with one of my best friends, Mimi. We were checking out beauty products and I was looking for a Pond’s anti-aging cream that was supposed to make you look ten years younger. When I told her what the cream does, she said: “Oh! So you want to look ten years younger? Then you’ll be ten years old!”
I love to organize events. Really. It makes me feel alive and important. The first major event I did was the HM Glam Night 2007 back in Business Inn, Bacolod for our college club.. I was assigned as the over all Head by my professor. I did my job well and we were the first to have fully paid the event on the night itself. I have also done some parties for Gypsy: Aruba Nights (which flopped because there weren't that many people who went to Gypsy at that time) and another mini reggae concert by San Tropez band... Many attended the event but sadly Bacolod wasn't that ready for reggae nights since the audience was just sitting around, chilling out to the music instead of grooving to the beat...
Last July 14, my dad told me to look for a caterer for his birthday which he planned to celebrate in our house. He wanted to invite the whole family so I told him that we wouldn't fit and I offered to find a venue for him.
I organized his birthday party from scratch... I was so scared the event would be a failure since I only had a few days to focus on it. The whole family was invited, Fuentebella & Torralba..., SVT employees, friends from the bank, suppliers, etc.
I was even given the opportunity to go back to Bacolod so that I could take videos of my grandparents, my siblings and uncle to create the "documentary." When I went back from Bacolod, there were only 4 days left before the big night so I wasted no time. I made the movie file with Windows Movie Maker but sadly, it wouldn't save! Horrified, I asked an IT friend for advice and he said that he will make it for me. He came to the office last Thursday and when he found out that the movie was for Friday already, he backed out since he was already swamped with work and installed Adobe Premiere Pro in my pc...
I dealt with Premiere on my own. Troubled, I still couldn't save the file after.. I have never used Premiere and was proud of how I was doing so I couldn't be blamed why the file would not save. I tried everything and even attempted to have the movie done by a professional (which would cost P 5000). Luckily, my cousin told me not to make such decisions and try it again..
I succeeded just 3 hours before the party started. I ended up saving the movie in different files. Audio was horrible since I put background music in the Video messages of people dear to my dad. I didn't know how to turn down the volume of an audio file in Premiere. If only WMM was not acting against me, the movie would have been perfect.
Grr... But no worries... Everyone enjoyed the movie... My dad loved it.
We started late due to the heavy downpour and traffic in Makati. Supposedly, we were to eat dinner 7-8pm but since there were only a few people until 8pm, we decided to start late. We all ate delicious foods... When dinner ended, the program began.
My aunt's family started the program with a song dedicate to my dad. She and her son played the guitar as well. The next song was sung by Claire Mangubat while her dad played the guitar. She sung Everybody's Changing by Keane. Everyone clapped at how great she was.
OJ Mariano, one of my dad's favorite singers, sang 2 songs: If Ever You're In My Arms Again and another song (I will fill in the title soon). His voice was heavenly and wanted to make me fall in love... After OJ, another uncle sang 2 songs. Uncle Oby is a professional singer who sings opera songs... He even sang acapella when we encountered a problem with the audio equipment.
Last but not least, my bachelor uncle, Tito Ric, sang in the background of the first part of the movie I made for my dad. He sang 2 songs and when he finished, I continued to play the movie messages for my dad.
When the movie was over, my e for people to answer and the price was an aueldest brother hosted a gamtographed CD of OJ Mariano. Just some easy trivia about my dad. The night ended well.
My sister, Tita Mydz, Tito Tony, Tito Ric, Uncle Oby, Tita Diwi, OJ and I went to Coffee Bean to unwind. We went home 2 am. My dad and Tito Tony, Tita Mydz had a plane to catch at 9am so that meant I had to drive them to the airport by 6am.
I was able to catch some sleep. At 6 am, my dad entered my room (which he doesn't do anymore since the whole "not-speaking-with-...") and woke me with a warm smile. He was about to leave when I told him to sit down and greeted him a Happy Birthday. I asked him if he had fun and he said: "It was the happiest thing you have ever done for me. I never knew you would make it memorable with the documentary. Thank you kasi pinasaya mo ako. Ang saya saya ko!"
Without everyone's support, the night would have been a failure.. Even though the weather got worse, you all made an effort to attend my dad's birthday! Thank you to all from the bottom of our hearts!
Über thanks from me!

After a few hours of searching bag sellers in Multiply, I finally found the bag I wanted that was affordable, perfect, and the best part of it all: the seller was friendly! Too bad to all the nice bags out there yet had sellers who weren't accomodating. Here's a picture of the bag I'll be getting hold of on Saturday... Visit http://apprentice00.multiply.com for more bags maybe you'd find the one you're looking for. My next online purchase will be a RED PATENT BAG... So to all sellers who have an affordable oversized RED PATENT BAG, let me know... I want to buy one.
I lost my voice when I woke up last Saturday. Until now it hasn't returned... All you can hear from me is a husky reply to all your questions... My nephew, Nathan, had his party that day as well. He turned 5 today. I gave him a tent, which he loved so much. My dad gave him a battery operated motorcycle that he could ride in. Costed almost P6000.00 but worth it! (I'll upload pics next time). Nathan hugged me and said: "Ha! I know why you're like that noh? Wala ka boys!" Shocked, his mom and I stared at each other because right at that moment we were talking about my recent encounter with a guy turned a**h*le. We asked him to repeat what he said and still he repeated that "Wala ka boys auntie." We asked him to explain what it meant of course and he answered: "Auntie, wala ka boys. You can't speak!"
Last Saturday, May 4, I went to the dentist to have my wisdom tooth removed... It required an operation so I had to prepare all the stuff like food for the following days, schedules, etc. I was not to be stressed and eat only soft foods so I opted for soup. I am also not allowed to speak so much and even SMILE... (so sad). Unfortunately, my operation was unsuccessful. My dentists were a couple of married folks who had a clinic together and operated on unsuspecting patients like me, who would feel like a frog in Biology class. All in all I had 5 anesthesia shots injected in my left jaw. The dentists removed a portion of bone so that they could see the tooth better but after they were able to do so, I could already feel the pain so they decided to stop and sew my gums back together and schedule me for another appointment this saturday (oh happy happy day!), May 17. I wouldn't want to have an operation again though.. My dentist agreed to xray the area first and then if the tooth isn't that at all impacted, we could opt for self- ligating braces instead of the conventional braces so that my jaw could be expanded (since I have a small jaw, according to him). I am starving. Honest! There's a difference between starving yourself because you want to get thinner and starving yourself because you can't chew anything. So imagine me being on an all-soup diet since Sunday morning.... I definitely will eat once the stitch will be removed! I have even invited everyone dear to me to a pig out session... Well... mostly me pigging out... I have even made a few list of the foods that I want to eat again: 1. FRIED CHICKEN (Chef D'Angelo) 2. STEAK (In N' Out, Greenhills) 3. SUBWAY 4. PASTA 5. UNCLE SAM'S MAKI (Tempura) 6. BROCCOLLI!!!!!!!!!!! (I miss eating veggies... and yeah... broccolli is my favorite veggie... hehehehe.) Anyone want to join in my date with gluttony? Well... not only eating... I will also go back to the gym... I haven't been there since Friday... It feels so weird waking up last Sunday wanting to go to the gym so bad but I couldn't since I was under a no-stress policy... Yoga.... I'll see you again in a couple of weeks... My limbs probably aren't that flexible enough by then.... Sadly... Now talking about that date with gluttony, who wants in?
It may be because I practically lived in Bacolod my whole life but for me it's still the best place to grow up in. Being in Manila for nearly a year now has been a roller coaster ride filled with joyful moments, depressing memories and of course new adventures lurking just behind every corner. Nothing compares to the thrill of living in Manila and all of the endless possibilities that life can offer. Well.. that is.. almost nothing. Only if there were still some more to add to this almost perfect city. Here is a list of the things in Bacolod that I crave for the most. If they may be already here in the city, I haven't encountered them yet and would like to do so. If only they were here, then Manila would feel just like home: 1. Bob's Bulalo Steak and Sate Babi- Imagine your ordinary bulalo soup but this time on a sizzling plate. Hot and so tender. Yummy... For the Sate Babi, pork barbecue topped with Peanut Butter sauce. Bob's specialty since 1940s. 2. Ericka's Cup 's Very Berry Sundae (too bad they closed already)- definitely very berry. Vanilla and Strawberry sundae topped with Blueberries, Strawberries and Raspberries.. A sinful delight in every spoon! Better than sex. Hehehe. (You know the saying that Chocolate and Ice Cream are two items that we can all live without but we simply just can't resist? And that those two delightful desserts are comparative to sex in that way?) 3. Pepe's Dynamite Sticks-- oozing with mozarella cheese with a touch of spice. Bursts in your mouth! A perfect appetizer or pulutan! 4. Kaisei's Chicken Teppan, Unagi Terriyaki, Sukiyaki- imagine the taste of Manila's Tempura Restaurant with the same price range but with the perfect high class ambiance... This is Kaisei. Everyone's favorite Japanese restaurant in Bacolod. 5. Gypsy Tea Room's Garlic Cheese Dip, Smoked Cheese Dip, Chocolate Fondue, Raspberry Tea Shake, Negros Coffee- looking for a place to chillout with the company of friends? Gypsy's is the perfect place. Occassionally they have live performances from various artists. You can also hold your poetry sessions in the venue. Gypsy's is the perfect "tambayan" for the budding artist. It surely is a place to inspire. They also have Card/Palm Reading, Henna/Permanent Tattoo, and items for sale. Their furniture are made of throw pillows and sofas. The Gypsy Tea Room is located in Level 1, Piazza Sorrento Bldg., Lacson St., Bacolod City 6. Kuppa's Wimpy's Burger, Pesto Pasta, Minestrone Soup-Their Wimpy's Burger is the perfect burger with cheese and mushroom sauce. Such a wonderful delight! A perfect view of St. John's Institute. 7. Nene's Spareribs, Burger Steak, Sisig- located across USLS-IS, it brings back memories of my childhood years. With a budget suited perfectly for the budding student, it would be perfectly alright to buy two heaping servings. 8. Pendy's Corned Beef Saucer and Pendy's de luxe Sandwich- Everyone has a certain place that will remind them of their childhood. For me, it's Pendy's. It brings back memories of my younger years when my mom was still alive. Pendy's is an old time favorite of my family. My mom was their number 1 customer. I will never forget the goodness of their tasteful delights... 9. Bar 21's Batchoy and Crispy Crablets- I enjoy eating in restaurants that will remind me of my past. Bar 21 is another favorite of my family. It has been a witness of my life. Since I was a young girl dining in the restaurant after my class in Christian Academy of Bacolod, when I partied with my friends at age 13, and until I sat outside Cafe Bob's Lacson and tried to sketch the newly renovated Bar 21 at age 20. It's something I would definitely look forward going home to. 10. L'sea's Beef Brisket and Shrimp Rolls- Chinese cuisine at its best. Affordable too! 11. Calea's Cream Puff- Anyone knows how famous Calea cakes are. Even people from Manila have heard of Calea. Do try their cream puff for a change.
12. Bascon Cafe's Bubba Cake- Another delicious delicacy. Bascon Cafe also offers a wide range of food plus its homey atmosphere. Perfect for laid back attitudes of the Bacolodnon.
13. Vienna Kaffehaus' Sausages and Blackout Cake- Definitely try the cake guys. It's like nothing you've ever tasted before. It's my favorite cake by the way. And sadly, I haven't had a taste of this wonder in years. Will somebody in Bacolod please send me a whole cake? I'll refund the expenses, I swear!
That completes my list. If you've got anything to add, feel free to do so using the reply form below.
For all of you out there who have been asking, YES! My dog is still pretty much alive! And I don't expect her to die anytime soon. I hate death. So she better not leave me although we are far from each other. Kaice or Kristine April Ice Torralba (Yes! The dog has her own full name) will be celebrating her 8th birthday on February 8, 2008. No celebration though, since we both are far from each other. But I will be sending my grandma money so she could have our maid buy food for my bestfriend. Oooohhhh I love Kaice so much! I don't know what I would do if she would die... I don't know what I'd do if anybody I love would. I did lose somebody before and that was such a painful experience, I don't want to go through it again.
Have you ever noticed that whenever New Year’s comes around, we make a promise to do something “next year” but we never end up doing the thing we promised to do? We keep making these New Year’s Resolution and forget about them just a few weeks after we made them. So here I am compiling things that I’m thinking about doing this year… and I’m not calling it a RESOLUTION but instead: THINGS TO DO FOR 2008: 1. Find a job and stick with it. It may either be working in a call center or anything that will definitely help me earn more money. For 2007, I have been employed and unemployed numerous times that I lost track of it. Although they were all my decisions, this year, I have to start being a grown up. 2. Definitely be serious about going to the gym. I am going to make a commitment to myself that I will make fitness a lifestyle in my life encyclopedia. I am scared to be diagnosed with diabetes or any other sickness that will make me incapable of any further actions that I have done to myself. 3. Go to Boracay and meet a gorgeous guy (grr…)…. Probably won’t happen but it’s still too good to miss my list. J 4. Try Wakeboarding if not Surfing. I’ve always wanted to and now that I know where these places are, I have the opportunity. 5. Stop shopping so much. I have to save money and stop buying clothes and shoes… but it still seems that I always run out of clothes to wear…. I wonder why that happens… 6. Although this one has always been on top of my previous annual resolution lists, this time I’m making it happen: stop wishing for a guy to come and sweep me off my feet (sounds too cliché)… year by year I keep making this decision, now I’ve got to stop wishing and hoping. If he comes, then good. If he doesn’t then I don’t have to worry about anyone but myself, right? I can save all my money for myself. J No more shopping for some guy who will hurt me no matter how much he tries not too. 7. Buy a camera for myself. It’ll either be an entry level Canon/Nikkon camera or a Holga camera. I’m more interested in lomography than photography itself… Happy accidents. 8. Build my self-esteem, stop being sorry for myself and putting myself down all the time. No more crying over spilled milk. 9. Find my faith and grow with it. 10. Write more blogs and redevelop my passion for writing. 11. Finish the story that I’m starting. 12. Find my passion and love it. The past year wasn't my year. Hopefully 2008 will be the biggest change for my life.
